Student funding

There are a number of avenues for parents to access funding for their children involved in school sport:

South West School Sport

Students selected to represent Queensland School Sport receive financial assistance from the South West School Sport Board at the rate of 50% of all compulsory costs associated with the team. Funding is provided on application to the Regional School Sport Officer. For more information contact the Regional School Sport Officer.

Young Athlete Travel Subsidy (YATS)

This program replaced the YAAP program on 1 July 2015. The principles of the program are the same, but the new travel subsidy will provide additional financial assistance through 3 event tiers. A Fact Sheet (PDF, 469KB) provides additional details about the program or for further information and details on the YATS please visit the YATS webpage.

Local Sporting Champions Program

Local Sporting Champions: Funding for junior athletes to pursue their sporting dreams.

Junior sportsmen and women find it difficult to meet the ongoing and significant costs associated with participation at sporting competitions, particularly sportsmen and women from regional areas.

The Local Sporting Champions program is an Australian government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for junior sportsmen and women towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed state or national sporting competition.

Further information and application forms are available on the Australian Sports Commission website.

South West Indigenous Network (SWIN)

Applications for  SWIN Small Grants Program with indigenous athletes and teams across the South West region encouraged to apply for funding subsidies to assist with items such as team levy's and registration fees for representative sporting sides.

Potential applicants must meet approved program criteria for applications to be successful and these criteria are clearly outlined in the application package. Application forms are available on the SWIN website.

For assistance completing the program application forms or any other queries about the SWIN Small Grant Program please don't hesitate to contact your local Indigenous Community Sport and Recreation Officer.
