South West School Sport provides opportunities for multi-class athletes to participate in Queensland School Sport carnivals in:
- swimming
- cross country
- track and field
- aquathlon / triathlon.
Students qualify for these events through school to district to regional trials.
Due to the small number of multi-class students in the region, students participate in regional trials in their age group with able-bodied athletes. Results are then compared to multi-class state qualifying standards.
Schools in the south west are also able to participate in the various multi-class carnivals and 'come and try' days organised by Darling Downs School Sport. The dates and venues of these events are advised to schools during term 1 each year.
Classification
Athletes with disabilities wishing to participate in competitive school sport events organised by South West School Sport, Darling Downs School Sport and Queensland School Sport must first obtain official classification from the relevant governing body.
Schools, parents, carers with questions regarding classification, multi-class sport etc. should refer to the
multi-class athletes information letter (DOCX, 55KB) or contact Tim Leadbetter (South West Regional School Sport Office) on (07) 4572 6513.
